Who’s Got Your Back

Arkansans enter into consumer transactions every day, and most are completed without a hitch. From time to time, however, all consumers will be confronted with problems, such as defective products or erroneous bills. When you, as an Arkansas consumer, are confronted with such a situation, the dedicated employees of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division have got your back.

The staff of the Consumer Protection Division has a combined 180 years of experience in helping Arkansas residents navigate the consumer landscape.

It is our goal to help Arkansas consumers reach a positive resolution. The Consumer Protection Division will put its experience to work for you, starting with the moment you call our office. Three front-line phone counselors, some with years of service to consumers, are ready to answer your call.  They will often be able to help immediately when you call our Consumer Protection Hotline.

The phone counselors are specifically trained to assist and advise consumers, no matter the situation. Counselors will also know how to direct you to resources on the Internet or to other agencies that may offer assistance. Most importantly, our phone counselors can help in filing a consumer complaint with our office.

The Consumer Protection Division mediates thousands of complaints every year, assisting consumers in resolving legitimate disputes and navigating resolutions to all types of consumer problems. When a complaint is received, it is promptly assigned to a consumer investigator.

Need help deciphering an incomprehensible health insurance claim form? An investigator who specializes in health care – with decades of real-world experience – is ready to help.

Having trouble with your cell phone bill? An investigator who deals daily with phone-related issues can mediate a dispute on your behalf.

All 10 investigators within the Consumer Protection Division are assigned specialized investigative areas, like mortgages, credit or home improvement, giving them the expertise to handle your complaint. In addition, the investigators develop contacts with various industry representatives so that your complaint will be mediated quickly and efficiently.

Investigators and the eight assistant attorneys general in the Consumer Protection Division work closely together to identify and aggressively pursue companies that engage in deceptive and unfair business practices.

The assistant attorneys general have dedicated their law practice to public service. They are constantly involved in protecting the rights of Arkansas consumers by working through the court system to stop illegal business practices and obtain tangible relief for affected victims.

Our Assistant Attorneys General, investigators and phone counselors are proud to provide prompt and effective assistance to consumers, resolving problems one at a time.

Our Consumer Protection team can be contacted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Our consumer website, gotyourbackarkansas.org, is always available and accessible with helpful tips written and provided by that dedicated team.

So before you act or after the fact, we’ve got your back, Arkansas.
